BRA Day VideoSync Fundraiser

On Wednesday, October 17^th, Miami Plastic Surgery and Body and Soul held the 1^st Annual BRA Day VideoSync Fundraiser.  The high energy, fitness dance class allowed participants to shake and move in support of Breast Reconstruction Awareness. Breast implant manufacturer, Sientra, also sponsored the PINK event.

BreastReconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day is an initiative designed to promote education, awareness and access regarding post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. BRA Day was first launched in 2011 in Canada and now will occur annually on the third Wednesday of October.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

On Saturday, October 13th, Miami Plastic Surgery joined the American Cancer Society's Look Good...Feel Better Program to raise funds during the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.

  The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is an inspiring opportunity for the community to honor breast cancer survivors and to raise awareness about steps we all can take to reduce our risk of breast cancer. The funds raised during this event go towards groundbreaking research, comprehensive support for cancer patients, and access to free mammograms for thousands of women.

A BIG congratulations are in order! Our front desk supervisor, Maria Andrews, participated in last week's Escape to Miami Triathlon.

That's a 0.9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike AND 6.2 mile run... WOW!

Back to School Supply Drive

During the month of August, we teameded up again with The Education Fund and Ocean Bank Center for Educational Materials to provide school supplies for Miami-Dade County Public Schools... And it was a huge success!

Ligia, You Got a Delivery!

Somebody's feeling the love today! Ligia just received a box of Godiva chocolate as a "thank you" from a patient.  Along with the chocolate came a personalized note that read:

"Dear Ligia,

Everything "starts" with you and from day one, you made me feel comfortable ... and beautiful already! Thank you!"

We're Going to Miss You!

Today is a sad day at MPS! 

Ashley, who's been a member of the front desk team for a year and a half, is leaving us to pursue her career in her PhD in Counseling Pyschology at the University of Georgia. She recently graduated from the University of Miami with an M.S.Ed in Mental Health Counseling.

We're definitely proud of her, but we're sad to see her go!

Fishing Champ!

It's a two peat! For the second year in a row, Dr. Kelly won 1st place in the Jorge Portela Memorial Give – or – Take An Inch, Half-Ass Fishing and Diving Tournament. On his team, some familiar faces, including two of our favorite anesthiologists, Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Zaitman. The tournament takes place every Father's Day weekend on Key Biscayne and all proceeds from the tournament go to the Jorge Portela Scholarship Fund at Auburn University. 

Way to go boys! Let's go for the three-peat next year!

Spreading Smiles

Dr. Johnny Franco marks the area where he will reconstruct the ear of patient Anthony Galvez, age 9.

We're so proud of Dr. Franco! Last month, he participated in Baptist Hospital's 11th annual Day of Smiles. 

 Doctors from various specialties volunteered their time to help correct cleft lips and palates and perform nose revisions, ear reconstruction and scar revisions.

Spicy Señorita

Meet Missy! Some of you might know her as Ligia, Dr. Kelly's Patient Coordinator. For years, Ligia has been spoiling her friends and family with her spicy, savory salsa and at the urging of us all, she's finally taken her culinary craft mainstream. 

On Saturday, June 16, Missy's Salsa made its debut at the Redland Fruit & Spice Park... And it was a hit! We're not surprised! We wouldn't be surprised if we saw Missy at the local markets in a few years.
